One of the biggest real estate deals of 2012 has taken two big leaps forward in the past two weeks.
The first residents are moving into the apartments at the former Reynolds North metals plant – now called the Locks – and restaurateur Kevin Healy’s Casa del Barco is open for business in the ground floor of one of the development’s key buildings on Haxall Canal.
The newest member of the Boathouse family started lunch service today in the restored Italianate building overlooking the Haxall Canal. (Brunch will start this Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.) Yesterday, I was invited to stop by with other media types to see the beautifully finished Casa del Barco space (designed by Helen Reed) and taste some food prepared by executive chef Todd Richardson and his kitchen crew.
Kevin Healy, owner of the Boathouse at Sunday Park and the Boathouse at Rockets Landing, has branched out and opened an upscale Mexican version of the Boathouse along the Canal Walk in Downtown Richmond.
Kevin Healy, owner of the Boathouse restaurant locations at Sunday Park and Rocketts Landing is constructing the Mexican equivalent (yes, Spanish for "boathouse") in the former Reynolds building at 12th and Byrd streets, now called the "Italianate" (it was once a warehouse for both Reynolds Metals Co. and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco)
From the looks of things inside, there’s no way Kevin Healy, owner of the Boathouse at Rocketts Landing and Sunday Park, can get his latest restaurant open in roughly six weeks, but both he and his construction crew are confident - Casa Del Barco will open in December.
